The world is much more interesting if you pretend that all things you run into have unique personalities and motives...which they do, actually, as readers of craigslists' missed connections already know. So perhaps the exercise is one of awareness rather than imagination. TANGENT: I once walked by the president of my university and wondered 'does PrezBo know he's PrezBo? Does he wake up every morning, say good morning to Mrs. PrezBo, and think, I'm PrezBo!' This made me grin at him like an idiot to keep from laughing. He smiled back.
